🎉 Welcome to Columbia University!

Dear GSAS Students,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 academic year! Whether you are joining our Columbia community or returning to continue your graduate journey, we are thrilled to have you here.

I am Ateeyah Abdul-Wasi, and I look forward to serving as your President of the Arts and Sciences Graduate Council (ASGC) for the duration of the school year. ASGC functions as the governing student body within the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS); we advocate for graduate student issues to university administrators, support your academic and professional goals, and host events to build community across departments.

For the duration of your time here, you will be surrounded by people who come from many life paths. From in-state to international, our diverse academic community is one of our greatest strengths. ASGC provides the space to further engage with one another, fostering a sense of belonging for all of our community.

There are many ways for you to get involved: attend our events, run for an Executive Board position, host an event, or serve as your department’s representative.

This year, we are excited to offer:

However you choose to participate, do not let the year pass by— your time here is short, but the connections made stay with you far beyond here.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and to building this year together. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with your ideas, questions, or concerns. You belong here, and your voice matters.

Ateeyah Abdul-Wasi
ASGC President
